Store bought pizza dough is not just for pizza anymore. It’s also for cranberry walnut bread and many other sweet and savory goodies. This is simplest, quickest and most delicious bread you’ll make this holiday season. Pick up a pre-made whole-wheat pizza dough, add walnuts, cranberries, cinnamon and sugar and bake for 15 minutes. Voila – a gorgeous loaf of festive cinnamon-y goodness.
Make this holiday bread for brunch on Christmas morning alongside your egg strata and fruit salad. Serve with whipped butter and apple butter for a sweet treat.
We normally make our own pizza dough (it’s so easy), but always keep a pre-made dough on hand as well for when time is short. We find the dough is far better than the pre-made pizza crusts…and far better (and better for you) than pizza delivery.
Here’s what you need:
What else have you used pizza dough for? It’s so versatile. We’ve made bread sticks, savory breads (rosemary and garlic) and sweet breads like this cranberry walnut bread with cinnamon.
Make this bread in your cast-iron to get a crispy and delicious bottom crust.
Let cool slightly.
Here’s how to make it:
Cranberry Walnut Bread
Time: 25 minutes
- 1 22oz whole-wheat pizza dough
- ½ cup dried cranberries
- ½ cup chopped walnuts
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon sugar
Preheat oven to 450 degrees with cast-iron skillet inside. Remove pizza dough from bag and flatten onto counter. Sprinkle ½ of the toppings overtop the dough and knead to combine. Add the rest of the toppings and knead just to combine. Spread dough so it’s about 10 inches across – so it’ll fit snugly in the skillet. Remove skillet (careful, it’s HOT) and drizzle with olive oil. Add the dough and bake for about 15 minutes. Remove, let cool slightly and enjoy.
